FAQ
Does ShrinkShot Cam reduce image quality?
It captures at a lower resolution when you choose Small, Medium, or Large. That is intentional. For maximum detail, use Original.
Can I still shoot at original resolution?
Yes. Select Original before capturing.
Are EXIF and GPS preserved?
EXIF metadata is preserved. GPS is included when Location permission is enabled and you choose to allow location for photos.
Does the app upload my photos?
No. Photos are saved locally to your Photos library and are not uploaded by ShrinkShot Cam.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no login and no account creation.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Capture works without an internet connection.
Troubleshooting
The camera preview is black or unavailable
- Confirm Camera access is allowed in Settings → ShrinkShot Cam → Camera.
- Force-quit the app and reopen it.
- Restart your iPhone if another app recently used the camera.
- Ensure no Screen Time or MDM restriction is blocking the camera.
Photos are not appearing in the Photos app
- Confirm Photos access is allowed in Settings → ShrinkShot Cam → Photos.
- Open the Photos app and check the Recents album.
- If you use Limited Photos Access, grant access to save new items or switch to Full Access.
GPS location is missing from photos
- Enable Location for ShrinkShot Cam in Settings → ShrinkShot Cam → Location.
- Choose While Using the App (or equivalent) when prompted.
- Confirm Location Services are enabled system-wide in Settings.
- Allow a moment for GPS to acquire a signal, especially indoors.
Zoom presets look different on my iPhone
- Optical zoom options depend on your iPhone model and available lenses.
- Devices with fewer cameras will show fewer optical presets; digital pinch-to-zoom remains available.
Permissions
ShrinkShot Cam may request the following iOS permissions:
- Camera — required to capture photographs.
- Photo Library — required to save photographs to Apple Photos.
- Location — optional; used only to embed GPS metadata when you allow it.
You can change these at any time in iOS Settings. Denying Location does not prevent capture; photos simply will not include GPS metadata. For more detail, see the Privacy Policy.
Known issues
We currently have no widely reported blocking issues for version 1.0.0. If you encounter unexpected behaviour, please email shrinkshot@martintutko.com with steps to reproduce, screenshots if helpful, and your device details.
